We are looking for a person to take on the management of youngstock on our 500 cow herd of Holstein cattle which is on a premium M&S contract.
All calves are raised in hutches until 10 days when the heifers move on to an automatic feeder and the beef calves stay on until sale. We have youngstock across 3 sites, which are all located very close to the main farm.
We require an individual to take charge of the day-to-day duties of feeding/checking calves and managing colostrum protocol. We work as part of a larger team, and help is always on hand. Being a good communicator is essential. The individual would need to take charge of castrates and dehorning. Attention to detail with cleanliness is key, with calf health and welfare being the number one priority. A keen eye and good stock skills are essential, but a willingness to learn them is just as valued.
The role comes with flexibility; this allows the potential candidate opportunity’s to be involved with milking and other farm duties. As a team we like people to take part in all aspects of the farm, allowing flexibility for holidays and giving people a few days change from their usual role.
Please be aware that this is not a typical calf rearing role, you will have a say in how the calves are managed and be part of all decision making when it comes to youngstock. We are striving to raise standards across the farm and we want an individual to be a part of this journey.
There is accommodation available on the farm, which is a mobile home, free from rent, rates and all utilities.
A competitive package is on offer with regular time off.
