Hartpury University’s estate boasts its own 1,000 acre commercial Home Farm split across several sites. The farm comprises a 250-cow dairy herd, 250 dairy youngstock, 200-head beef unit, an arable enterprise mainly growing combinable crops, and a forage unit growing all forage required by the farm. The farm also boasts a sheep unit which is made up of approximately 800 ewes, split into an indoor lambing North Country mule flock, and an outdoor lambing flock. This includes providing hay and haylage for our equine department of approx. 200 horses.

We are looking for an additional member to continue a large-scale transition of a key farming enterprise.

The ideal candidate will be able to milk, carry out stock tasks, and operate machinery to a high standard, and be responsible for the dairy in the absence of the Head Herdsperson. We are seeking an individual who has an interest in working with, and demonstrating best practice to, students.

The herd is comprised of approximately 250 Autumn calving Holstein-Friesian cows, and milking takes place through a 16:32 rapid-exit De Laval parlour.

Suitable candidates will also be expected to be a flexible team player, with a willingness to assist on the other enterprises as needed, including the breeding ewe flock, dairy youngstock, beef, and arable enterprises.

We offer excellent benefits including continuous professional development opportunities, 25 days annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays, onsite fitness facilities, free onsite parking and lots more.
