Due to our Farm manager deciding to move on after four and a half very successful years, we have an exciting contract vacancy for a capable and focused working farm manager to take on the care of a 500 acre mostly grassland farm on the Dorset/Somerset borders.  Reporting directly to the owner, the role will offer significant autonomy and will involve all aspects of management as well as caring for the stock, machinery and field operations.   The key enterprise is a beef suckler herd comprising around 220 dairy bred Angus cows crossed to Angus bulls producing a three quarter Angus calf.  Cows and calves are grazed on a rotational grazing system based on 48 hour paddocks.  Calving in spring, cows are outwintered on a mix of stubble turnips, kale and deferred grass.  The main management roles will incorporate budgeting, sales and marketing and livestock, input purchasing, SFP claims, health and safety, BCMS and other statutory records, liaising with contractors, organising forage conservation and enterprise accounting.  The remainder of the role will be the day-to-day management of the livestock, ploughing, hedge trimming, fertilising, haymaking, mucking out, fencing, machinery maintenance and general farm maintenance.   

We would like someone who has a passion for the countryside as well as being a technically proficient farm manager.  You will have a formal agricultural qualification backed up by experience in a similar role.  We would like the successful candidate to treat the farm as if it were their own and to take complete ownership of the role.  In return we are offering a well remunerated contract, and a house free from rent and council tax in a stunning part of the country.
