Stockperson / GFW in Somerset Ref 2596

The Farm:
This large herd are milked through state of the art points rotary parlour and all-year-around calving system. Seeking candidate for a mixed tractor operator/GFW with relief calf rearing responsibilities. 

The Role:
The role will involve relief calf rearing 1 day per week and including covering the calf rearers holiday periods. This will involve feeding out with milk taxi, detecting and treatment of any illness, attention to detail and hygiene. This will be a manual job, moving calves around pens, weighing and post-weaning, tagging etc. The farm aims to rear 250 heifer replacements each year, with the remainder put to beef and reared to 55+kgs. 

The remainder of the week is the operation of a telehandler, general farm work will include operating small pivot steer machine to complete yard work, sand dispenser for the cubicles, mechanical raking of cubicle beds, general maintenance and keeping of the farm in the high standards and stock welfare.
Calving cow checks and responsibility of night checks on a rota basis. 

No milking is involved with this role.

The Applicant:
We are seeking a candidate with excellent stockmanship, in order to detect any ailments with youngstock and calves. They must be experienced in operating yard machinery and equipment, use of telehandler and pivot steer machine.  Take pride in their work and work together with a well-established team on a well-kept unit.

Additional Info:
This is a contract position, where a successful person will operate as an agency worker with Farm Solutions. This means that the person will not have sub-contractor responsibilities and all statutory tax deductions and payments will be made by Farm Solutions on their behalf. Hourly pay operates, which includes pay for overtime hours worked.
