Required for a progressive AYR calving herd

The role would either suit one full time individual or a farming couple willing to share the workload between them. The herd is comprised of 300 high health status Holstein Friesians with milk sold to Muller on a Tesco contract. Yields are in excess of 9,000L with historically low SCC & Bactoscan. Cows are milked through a one-man Fullwood 30:30 parlour with in-parlour feeders and recently updated segregation gate and automatic footbath. Cows graze for half the year and are housed on sand cubicles for the remainder.

The candidate or candidates will be responsible for the day to day dairy operations including milking 12 days a fortnight and the management of youngstock from weaning onwards. Yard work and feeding are not requirements of this role and candidates must have a passion for herd health and the will to drive the herd forward while working closely with vets and advisors. 

AI is done through Alta Genetics and the herd has recently been fitted with activity & rumination collars. Good record keeping and organisation skills are essential and ideally prior experience of foot trimming will be shown, but training can be provided. Competitive remuneration and a three-bed cottage with central heating and spacious garden are available on the farm. There are several good schools in the area. The farmer would consider a couple and the role can be adapted to suit a less/more experienced candidate with the right attitude and values.  Profit share/incentive schemes could also be on offer.
