WHERE IS THE ROLE LOCATED? Scotland

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE ROLE? A senior role with responsibility for the effective and efficient management and delivery of dairy knowledge exchange activities in Scotland, providing a world class knowledge and information delivery service to Scottish dairy farmers. To be responsible for relevant stakeholder engagement within Scotland, achieving key operational and business plan targets in support of the Dairy Sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • A region based role with extensive travel requirements
  • Budgetary responsibility in line with company Standing Instructions, with full responsibility to manage Scotland Dairy KE expenditure
  • Line management of Scotland Dairy KE staff
  • Lead activities covering dairy Knowledge Exchange (KE) within Scotland ensuring that sector expertise and engagement is maintained and enhanced as much as possible
  • Provide operational and line management of a Scottish Dairy KE team within the wider Dairy KE team
  • Ensure high quality effective KE activities are available to all levy payers in Scotland
  • Coach and mentor team members as required
  • Lead the coordination of processes to evaluate the effectiveness of Dairy KE activity in Scotland so that specified Sector outcomes linked to Optimal Dairy Systems are delivered
  • Oversee key operational targets for the Scotland Dairy KE team
  • Ensure the Scotland Dairy KE team is integrated across the wider Dairy KE team, KE and research function contributing levy payer feedback to positively deliver the sector priorities and KE requirements
  • Follow company guidelines to deliver effective engagement with levy payers and stakeholders for the dairy sector in Scotland
  • Liaise with the Head of Dairy KE to ensure KT materials are proactively and positively delivered to levy payers and stakeholders
  • Oversee and contribute to the regional delivery of discussion groups, open meetings and joint events
  • Oversee the delivery and accompaniment of inward missions by the Scotland team, to support the wider sector strategy
  • Identify cross sector working opportunities for the Scotland team with Scotland Director, ensuring efficiencies and sharing of best practice are delivered
  • Deliver proactive feedback mechanisms from levy payer facing activity which feed into  technical priorities and strategy
  • Be a point of contact for dairy with internal and external stakeholders / professionals for matters relating to KE activity in Scotland
  • Support the Head of Dairy KE and Scotland Director with an understanding of the industry landscape and its technical challenges
  • Where directed by the Head of Dairy KE and Scotland Director provide industry representation e.g. to Scottish committees, industry groups
  • Where directed, contribute to stakeholder / supply chain engagement on technical issues at a national level and to regional activity with stakeholders via the knowledge exchange teams
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of internal and external technical / knowledge transfer and associated stakeholders / professionals
  • Take an active and constructive role in Dairy KE management meetings and wider company staff meetings as appropriate
  • Contribute to the development of the Sector business plan

WHAT QUALITIES DO I NEED?

  • A proven track record with experience of developing and delivering innovative and effective KE approaches
  • Significant practical experience of facilitating and delivering KE activities at farmer meetings and high profile conferences
  • A skilled communicator able to speak with authority and write clearly and effectively
  • Will hold a relevant Agricultural degree and/or equivalent
  • May have a higher level professional and or technical qualification
  • Will have relevant farming industry experience can demonstrate detailed knowledge of the block calving dairy farming production system, in GB and internationally
  • An experienced leader, with a proven track record of managing a field team
  • Experienced at monitoring, recording and improving staff performance
  • Results driven manager, with experience of leading a team to achieve stretching operational targets
  • Well-developed ability to think analytically and creatively
  • Excellent project and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Confident to work with and lead industry partners from across the dairy sector
  • A team player with the ability to respond to the needs of colleagues across the KE team
