W.B Daw & Son is a family business farming 3500 acres based in Rugeley, Staffordshire. We farm combinable crops and potatoes as well as operating beef, sheep, pig and biomass enterprises.

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time experienced operator to join our team, and will be mainly focused on the potato side of the business. The ideal candidate would be an all rounder, capable of operating a diverse range of modern machinery but also performing a wide variety of yard-based roles to a high standard. Knowledge of potato crops, planting, harvesting and irrigation alongside work shop skills, good communication and a high attention to detail are essential.

The main responsibilities of the role are.

• Potato planting
• Managing irrigation
• Operating a self-propelled 4 row potato harvester
• Servicing and maintaining machinery
• Out loading of potatoes from store

550 acres of potatoes are grown annually for the processing market, and the majority of which go into storage on the farm. The business has developed close relationships with its customers and we produce crops to a high standard. The farm uses modern machinery, farming techniques and management practices. John Deere and Fendt tractors form the main machinery fleet ranging in size from 150hp to 550hp, Grimme, Simba, Väderstad and Agrifac equipment are also used. The business runs Gatekeeper and GPS steering systems are used with all of the main field operations.

A full driving licence, PA1, 2 and 4 and telehandler certificates should be possessed. Experience with large scale machinery both operating and servicing will be an advantage.
