An excellent opportunity has arisen for a herdsperson looking to progress their career by helping to care for an organic herd near Exeter in Devon. 

The herd comprises 280 autumn calved cows which are TMR fed through winter and grazed enthusiastically through spring and summer.  They are milked through a 24:24 Westphalia parlour with ACR’s, meters, auto ID & Seg, back flush and auto wash. This award-winning unit includes housing in cubicles with auto scrapers and bedding on mats with sawdust.  Yield is around 8,000 litres per cow with an impressive 4,000 from forage.  Supporting our excellent herd manager, we require someone with experience of milking a herd of this size who can help to drive the unit forward.  The role will involve all aspects of caring for a herd - you will be responsible for around half of all milking, calving, being proactive with herd health, TMR feeding, night checks and caring for DYS. It would also be advantageous if you could do AI and foot trimming, but training can be given if needed.

The village of Bradninch is walking distance from the unit, with the town of Cullompton only 2 miles away and the city of Exeter is only an easy 5 mile drive from the farm.  The rewards for this very important role, in a stunning part of the south west, will include a generous salary, regular time off and a good house in the village, a short walk from the unit, which will be provided free from rent, rates and council tax.
