Leek Manager

Emmett UK farms, packs and markets vegetables to UK retailers and processors. The main factory is in Lincolnshire with farming there and in Cambridgeshire in the UK; we have winter production with own farming businesses at Murcia in Spain and at Foggia in Italy. Their main products are spinach, leeks, kale and cavolo nero with a total area farmed of around 2000ha.

Leek Manager

We grow and harvest around 7,000 tonnes of leeks.

All leeks are delivered to our factory at Fosdyke ready for packing.

Production is all in Lincolnshire, between Sleaford and Wisbech.

Planting starts in early March and runs through to July.

Harvesting from the first week in July through to early May.

We are looking to appoint someone who will be responsible for the planting and harvesting of the leek crop, the husbandry and irrigation is managed by others.

The planting team consists of two experienced tractor drivers and eleven field operatives.

We harvest the leeks with two tracked rigs, well invested and maintained highly efficient machines. Each Rig has a team of 24 cutters, 6 graders, 2 washer/stackers and a rig operator. The total headcount in the field at full production is 70.

The successful applicant needs to be:

• Fully familiar with Health and Safety practices.
• Experienced at managing people.
• Numerate and computer literate.
• An excellent communicator and team player.
• Responsible for an operation that is audit ready on any day of the year.
