Are you a Research Agronomist or Crop Trials Officer ready for a new challenge?

A leading seed business based in East Anglia are seeking a Seed Trials Manager to plan, coordinate, monitor, photograph and report on a wide range of variety trials across England – East Anglia, South West and North. The business is very well established, progressive and keen to take up new ideas and develop them. The role will be based at one of their offices in Suffolk, or in Lincolnshire, but will require a fair amount of UK wide travel and some overnight stays away from home.

The post holder will work closely with the Technical Director and also liaise with seed breeders, fertiliser companies, and trials subcontractors, and will plan and run trials for Maize, Oilseed Rape, Forage Crops, Sunflower, Cover Crops and Grass. Visiting and reporting on the trials sites throughout the growing season and providing a photographic record of growth will also be a key responsibility, as well as recording and compiling data as necessary. The practical cultivation, drilling, spraying, and harvest work are subcontracted to a 3rd party and so this is an overseeing and trials management role. The Seed Trials Manager will need to keep up to date on agronomy and technical developments in the industry; and will be called on to give technical advice to merchants, distributors, farmers and growers, supporting the sales activities of the business, and also be open to any new opportunities for the future. Ongoing training and support will be provided as necessary.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least 1-2 years of crop trials or plant breeding or variety trials experience.
  • Relevant degree or agricultural qualification – helpful but not essential
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team player with ability to supervise other members of the team
  • Well organised with close attention to detail.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues
  • Willing to travel throughout the UK and have nights away from home of regular basis
  • Clean driving licence

Location: Suffolk

Salary: Competitive base salary, company car, pension, life assurance and holidays.
