Senior Trader - Barley | Openfield | Lincolnshire
Salary - Commensurate with experience

About the Company
Openfield are Britain's only national grain marketing and arable inputs co-operative. It is a significant business, with a turnover of over £600m and is owned by around 4,000 British farmers. They work with their farmer members to supply grain commodities to some of the biggest and most well-known brands in the UK. Openfield proudly supports British grain for British food and drink.

When the market is right, Openfield is also one of the UK's largest exporters of grains. In addition to marketing grain for farmers and grain stores, Openfield is a National fertiliser distributor and manufactures and sells quality seed, are a member of the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS) and a member of the Agricultural Industries Confederation.

About the Job
You will be joining an established team of Commodity Traders to head up their Barley book and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The key responsibilities are to support this high value commodity which has a huge amount of complexity supporting the provenance of the barley. Used for brewing and distilling, provenance is becoming more and more important as UK retail consumers favour British beers and spirits and the story attached to them. You will need to keep one eye on managing the day-to-day requirements of your customers and the broader team, whilst keeping the other eye on the longer-term strategic growth of the business. You will be managing a team of three, all of who are very experienced and have a fantastic reputation in the sector. In addition, you will also be working closely with Openfield's farm sales team who look after the short and long term grain marketing and arable inputs needs of their farmer members.

The Ideal Candidate
A good understanding of Agri commodity trading is very important, as is the fit with the business needs, values and future growth plans as this is a significant part of the broader team's objectives. Their Core values are "I CARE":- Integrity, Challenging, Accountable, Responsive and Engaged. Having a passion for customer service and experience of managing a team is definitely beneficial, but the ability to make a difference to their members and their customers is just as crucial.
