We have a contract vacancy for an experienced herdsperson on a 1,000-acre family managed dairy farm at Ston Easton, Somerset.

This large mixed dairy/arable farm has two milking herds and is looking for a full-time herdsperson on one unit of 220 Holstein x Friesian cross cows, calving in 2 blocks autumn and spring, yielding 7,500 litres, and milked via a 15 x 30 Fullwood parlour with ACR’s.  Out of parlour feeders also being utilised, with RMS taking care of the breeding.  The cows are housed during the winter in cubicles with mats and sawdust, fed with easy feed grass silage and auto-scrapers planned for the future.

The appointed person will be required to manage day-to-day operations on this unit, with part-time assistance, to achieve targets of 8,000 litres plus yields and 4,000 litres from grazing and forage, so a progressive grass enthusiast is sought.

A 3-bedroom bungalow, on farm, is offered to go along with a competitive salary, for a five-day working week.
