Workshop Operative is required at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to lead on all service and repair requirements within the Operations unit consisting of Grounds Maintenance, Street Cleansing, Sports and Cemetery services.

You will be a highly skilled and qualified mechanical technician with appropriate practical experience.

Leadership will be required in terms of training and supervision of a single Operative on a rota basis. The Operative will provide basic assistance whilst observing mechanical practices performed in the workshop.

A good attention to detail as is a good level of self-organising along with a practical and flexible approach will be required.

You will be required to work on a wide range of agricultural and compact tractors, ride on mowers, strimmer’s, and other 2- stroke machinery on a daily basis.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of rebuilding to manufacturer’s specification 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines including carburettor refurbishments.

Advanced diagnostic equipment is proposed for the workshop and experience or a willingness to train in the use of this would be required.

A good attention to detail as is a good level of self-organising along with a practical and flexible approach will be required.

Main responsibilities

  1. Servicing of small and large plant.
  2. Record keeping of newly acquired machinery.
  3. Ordering of workshop parts and consumables.
  4. Planning of annual and intermittent service inspections.
  5. Liaise with Area Manager in terms of budget and equipment requirement.
  6. Workshop general health and safety.
