About Us

The Welland Rivers Trust is the only environmental charity dedicated to the River Welland and its tributaries.

Our goal is to reconnect people with the natural and cultural heritage of their river, thereby ensuring that it is better valued and protected, and has a positive effect on local communities.

Our projects are also delivering vital work to improve the resilience of our water environment in the face of the climate and biodiversity crises.

 

The Role

The Welland Rivers Trust is seeking a part-time Project Officer with a passion for the environment and knowledge of ecology and river management. You will support the Project Manager in identifying schemes to develop and manage a wide range of current and future land, habitat, wildlife and water projects in the area. You will work closely with local landowners, farmers, and local authorities, in identifying, developing, and seeking approval for such schemes. As part of this process you will be required to develop and submit applications for project funding from public bodies, water utilities, local authorities and charities.

 

The Candidate will need to demonstrate that they have some knowledge of the following areas:

  • Engaging with those agencies, companies, community representatives and other parties related to the activities of the Trust
  • Experience of presenting concepts and schemes
  • An understanding of grant applications and/or fund raising
  • A basic understanding of capital works (eg. land drainage schemes or farm buildings)
  • Knowledge of the use of social media in business (Facebook/ Instagram
  • IT skills (Microsoft Office, GIS, website management)
  • Full driving license and access to a car

 

What you can expect:

  • To be avaiable to work on two or three days per week
  • A flexible work pattern, recognising that site visits and meetings with landowners, farmers and others will be required
  • Your work will be valued by the communities and parties that we engage with
  • An office base, centrally located in the catchment, when required
