Potato Trials and Laboratory Technicians

NIAB is a dynamic, research led and market driven plant bioscience organisation, with an emphasis on innovative applications for end-users in the agricultural, horticultural and food sectors. With over 100 years’ experience of research and knowledge exchange, NIAB is a leading research centre for potato agronomy and also provides a range of technical services and training for the potato industry.  

We wish to appoint two Technicians to work as part of our friendly NIAB Potatoes team. As part of the technical team, you will provide research support services and analysis for the research group and a range of external clients. The roles will involve planting, sample collection, measuring plant characteristics in the field, potato harvesting, as well as glasshouse and laboratory work. A good eye for detail is also essential, along with the ability to follow strict protocols. The roles also offer an opportunity to develop a range of practical and professional skills in team working, time management, communication and practical problem solving.

We are looking for good team workers with an interest in agriculture/plant sciences who are willing to learn and develop new skills. The work can be physically demanding, and will entail spending substantial periods working outdoors, in all weather conditions. It may be necessary to work flexibly in response to fluctuations in workload.

The roles are Cambridge-based, but there may be a requirement to work at off-site trials. A full driving licence is desirable, but not essential.

These roles are both permanent, full-time appointments with a salary in the range of £20,318 to £26,810 per annum depending on skills, experience and qualifications.
