Alston Sutton Farm is set in the picturesque Mendip Hills and lies between Cheddar to the east and Burnham on Sea to the west.
This is a well-equipped, mainly all grass, farm that supports 260 high yielding Friesian Holstein cows and followers. The unit consists of a fully automated 24/24 Westphalia parlour with auto feed feeders and backing gate. Cow housing is cubicles with a mixture of sand and mattress beds with auto scrapers, plus good handling facilities which include a rollover foot crush. A contract foot trimmer is employed, but the ability and willingness to trim feet is a must. DIY AI is carried out with spread block calving from July to Feb. Cows are grazed with good track access to paddocks; this together with grass/maize/whole crop semi-TMR feeding.
This position has excellent on farm support and offers good long-term employment prospects to a herdsperson with a proven track record of working to the highest standards within milk production and cow care and has a period of only being vacant twice within twenty-six years. It is to the disappointment of all those involved that following a very successful twelve-month period, unforeseen circumstances dictate this herd manager’s position is back in the jobs market again and it is stressed this should not be viewed in anyway an adverse reflection of an on-farm situation of the position.
It offers an excellent remuneration package to include a well-maintained large detached 4-bedroom house, with oil c/h and enclosed garden, close to the unit, together with regular time off.
