Project Development Adviser

Our EnTrade business is growing and has an exciting new role as a Project Development Adviser.

EnTrade is a Wessex Water business which is creating and operating high-integrity online markets for nature that deliver cleaner water, increased biodiversity, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and natural flood management.

EnTrade’s work to develop catchment markets around the West of England is a world-leading response to the challenge of generating private investment in nature. The markets are making it easier for farmers and land managers to earn money from nature-based projects on their land and for organisations to meet their environmental commitments in a timely and cost-effective way.

The Project Development Adviser will work with land managers and credit buyers in these markets by supporting the identification, design and financial appraisal of a pipeline of nature-based projects.

The role

As the Project Development Adviser, you will be responsible for building a pipeline of nature-based projects that can be accredited by our science team and then placed on the market.

You will work with land managers to develop nature-based projects and with prospective environmental credit buyers to understand and register their credit needs. The projects you develop will fit within the natural landscape, generate attractive returns on investment for land managers and meet the environmental needs of credit buyers.

Your tasks will include:

  • building and maintaining relationships with farmers and potential credit buyers
  • using GIS data to analyse land holdings and their potential to supply nature-based projects
  • visiting sites to assess project feasibility and risks
  • working with contractors to prepare additional data (eg, topographical surveys and soil testing) that will support project design
  • preparing outline project designs, risk profiles and cost estimates for a range of nature-based projects
  • understanding and registering demand from credit buyers, often in liaison with the Local Planning Authority.

What do I need?

To be considered for this opportunity, we are looking for candidates who have a genuine passion and appreciation for farming and the natural environment and to work with businesses and organisations that want to make a meaningful contribution to nature’s recovery.

It is essential you have;

  • a full clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • a proven record of negotiating the delivery of nature-based projects with land managers
  • practical experience designing wetland or woodland creation projects
  • practical experience assessing the environmental performance of nature-based projects in relation to carbon storage, water pollution reduction and/or biodiversity net gain metrics.

Desirable:

  • educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a discipline related to physical geography, environmental sciences, town and country planning or agriculture management
  • expertise in use of ArcGIS products
  • experience advising farm businesses
  • experience working with environmental offsets and local authority planning policies.

Interviews

Interviews will be taking place on the 18 or 21 July 2022. The interviews will consist of competency-based questions and a chance for the hiring manager to discuss the role in greater detail. The interviews will be face to face in Claverton, Bath.

Benefits for you

  • Pension - up to 20% combined contribution
  • Pro rata 25 days’ annual holiday
  • Opportunity to buy and sell up to five days’ holiday
  • Life assurance (four times your salary)
  • Flexible working
