WHAT’S THE JOB? FIELD ASSESSOR - Laying Hens - Northern Ireland

WHAT’S THE INDUSTRY? Livestock (Laying hens and occasionally other livestock)

WHERE IS THE ROLE LOCATED? Northern Ireland
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE ROLE? In this exciting and varied role, you will visit RSPCA Assured farms, and any new applicants to the scheme to carry out an assessment of the production systems in meeting RSPCA welfare standards. You will then complete a farm report to record and support membership of the RSPCA Assured scheme. This is a role that is suited to someone comfortable in a practical outdoor farm environment.
Your daily routines will be largely planned and organised by you to fit with your farmers, with occasional team and scheme promotional events.
WHAT QUALITIES DO I NEED?
- You should share the animal welfare values and ethics of the RSPCA Assured scheme
- The ability to work independently and on your own initiative, organising your work-routine, with strong organising and recording skills
- A keen attention to detail, with first-rate communication skills at all levels
- An agricultural qualification (NVQ level 3 or higher)
- Two years at least of practical experience of laying hen or similar production systems particularly in commercial farming operations
- GCSE English and Math or similar qualifications
- An availability to travel extensively within your region with a current full driving licence.
- A working knowledge of RSPCA Assured scheme and other farm assurance schemes is desirable
