Livestock Assistant.

Clay Farming is the in-hand farming operation for the Brockampton and Perrystone estates in South East Herefordshire. Covering 3500 acres, with an arable and livestock core to the business. Arable cropping is centred around combinable crops, including Wheat, OSR and Pulses. The livestock consists of traditional Ruby Red Devon cattle, Coloured Ryeland Sheep and Middle White Woodland pigs with a move to direct marketing through Perrystone Meats. We also operate a commercial grain store on top of our own storage. The farm and wider estate are part of several CS agreements with a focus on looking after the farm and environment for future generations.

The farm is part of the wider estate that has 800 acres of forestry, the well-known Perrystone Shoot, Fishing on the River Wye and a large commercial and Residential Portfolio. There is also a garden team looking after the considerable show gardens.

The Role

A position has arisen due to the expansion of the livestock side of the business and the desire to improve the grassland side of the estate. We are looking to recruit a competent individual, able to work on their own initiative as well as being part of a wider team. Main Duties will include:

  • Daily Livestock Duties
  • All aspects of Grassland upkeep.
  • Assist with front of house maintenance.
  • Assist with expanding the livestock enterprise.  
  • Fence and Gate maintenance.
  • Assist with collating data for the livestock enterprise.
  • Assisting with wider farm and estate work

A reliable person who is willing to learn, adapt and help move the business forward is sought. Passion and attention to detail is a key requirement.  The successful applicant will have a good working knowledge of farming practises, be able to fill out paperwork and have good record keeping skills.

The following qualifications would be beneficial although training will be given to the right person:

  • Livestock certificates of competence and/ or proven experience
  • Forklift/Loader Certificate of Competence
  • PA1/ 2/ 6
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • College Qualification
