Our client, a well respected global poultry advisory company, is seeking an on farm poultry vet, one of a number of senior roles, for an exciting new 250,000 bird layer farm development in Liberia, West Africa. Building will commence with ground clearance in early November 2023 with a view of completion within 12 months however the owners and board wish to appoint the successful candidate in the early stages, to be in place by the latter part of project build, enabling them to get familiar with the final fitting out of the site and being an instrumental player in getting the site ready for birds being placed and ready for egg production. The farm will comprise of four production houses and one rearing house with sheds and infrastructure coming from European suppliers, predominantly Big Dutchman. Reporting to the Farm Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of flock health and welfare. You will manage vaccination programmes, undertake flock health observations, disease prevention control measures, bio security plans and implementation and treatments as and when needed. You will have a proactive and professional approach and be highly experienced in poultry veterinary work being familiar with common diseases and illnesses that can occur in this part of Africa. You will be an excellent communicator able to work amongst a multi national and local team, able to inspire those around you with your attitude and approach and you will keep detailed records of flock health and flock monitoring KPIs. Experience in a similar role, in a similar environment and culture is essential and alongside the obvious vet skills in this sector, the ability to live and work in the developing world and away from your home country, knowing and dealing with the challenges this can bring, is a must. This initial three year contract is an exciting but challenging opportunity and with great challenge brings great reward.
