Multiple Brand New Roles – UK Wide – Hybrid Working – Permanent

Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

As a result of the energy transformation we are seeing unprecedented growth in our land rights workbook and are looking to grow our new Strategic Infrastructure, Land Rights Team. We're looking for a Surveyors / Land Rights Leads to deliver projects, within the new Strategic Infrastructure team, promoted as Development Consent Orders and/or Compulsory Purchase Orders.

You'll be part of a high-performing team providing an expert land rights service for National Grid. This will be in accordance with current legislation and guidance, best practice and procedure, to ensure National Grid adheres to its licence obligations and ensures we secure land rights for our existing and new assets.

In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to travelling to offices and project sites as required. As such we’d welcome applicants from anywhere in the UK.

About you

• Experience of delivering land activities for infrastructure projects including access to land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.
• Experienced in being the discipline lead on infrastructure projects and providing land rights expertise to the wider project team.
• Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams (engineering, legal, consenting) to support overall project delivery.
• Experience of providing project and contract management services as part of delivering infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of the legal and regulatory parameters that National Grid work within, including the range of statutory powers available, understanding how these then relate to the relevant project strategy and approach.
• Knowledge of the consenting regimes and processes relevant to complex linear projects. This includes the Planning Act (2008) Development Consent Order and Compulsory Purchase Order processes and practice including the compensation code.
• A willingness to train to develop at any level (support provided)
• A degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline and/or working towards MRICS, FRICS or FAAV or have demonstratable ‘on job’ experience.

What You’ll Do

Joining a project team typically of between 3-8 people, you’ll become a key team player on land rights and acquisitions for our infrastructure projects from development to construction, including agreeing access to land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.

Examples of our major projects include Eastern Green Link 2, spanning more than 500km under land and sea. 

You will support the implementation National Grid Lands Rights Strategy (and other supporting policies and procedures) in a transparent, credible, consistent and economic way.

Specifically this may include:

• Delivering all land rights and acquisitions for our infrastructure projects from development to construction, including access to land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.
• Implementing National Grid Lands Rights Strategy (and other supporting policies and procedures) in a transparent, credible, consistent and economic way.
• Reporting on programme, key milestone delivery, risk, contract and financial management on a regular basis. This includes being able to identify and distil complex land issues in a succinct and clear way in regular reports to the Land Rights Project Manager, Senior Project Managers and Project Directors.
• Managing (often competing) internal/external stakeholder, landowner and customer requirements.
• Procuring and managing external resource to deliver required lands activities.
• Driving continuous improvement and deliver consistency across projects.

What you’ll get

Spanning our top staff levels 7 and 8, our starting salary range spans £44,000 – £63,000 dependent on level capability.

As well as your base salary, and company vehicle, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
