We are recruiting for a Pig Stockperson/General Farm Worker for an agricultural college unit in the East Riding of Yorkshire (HU17).

The new pig enterprise is part of a wider mixed farm at the top-rated college, which includes arable, cattle, and sheep.

They seek to employ a pig stockperson to help on their brand new 300-sow breeding unit. The chosen candidate, working alongside the pig unit manager, will undertake all routine tasks associated with breeding to the weaning unit. You will work with fantastic facilities, including a new farrowing facility and refurbished dry sow accommodation with a high level of automation. As a member of the wider farm team, this role will also include duties on the other farm enterprises when required.

The post holder will have the opportunity to influence the future of the pig industry. Therefore, an aptitude for working with young people and excellent communication skills are vital.

Job description:

  • Pig duties - feeding, bedding, medicating
  • Contributing to achieving the output plan for the unit in line with annually reviewed targets
  • Recording data
  • Observe and coach students
  • Assist in the moving, grading and handling of pigs

£27,707 pro rata (actual salary £21,313)

Hours: 30 hours per week (plus extra hours on the farm)
