We are recruiting for a Pig Stockperson for a farm in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

Our client is one of the leading and most progressive businesses in the Northern Ireland pig sector. The highly regarded company works across numerous sites across the country, specialising in a birth-to-bacon

enterprise, employing a large number of staff directly on each sow unit and indirectly with outside farmers' contracts finishing on their own farms.

Due to ongoing expansion within the company, they are looking to recruit for a Pig Stockperson.

The farm is well equipped and regularly renovated to ensure optimum facilities are available for staff and livestock. It has a wet feeding system for the sows and a combination of wet and dry feeding systems for the growing pigs. It is a high-input, high-output weekly farrowing system working with Danish-bred sows. All feed is bought from the compounder, with no milling required on site.

The unit prides itself on industry-leading production standards. 

 

Job Description:  

  • The candidate will assist with running a modern 750-sow indoor pig breeding herd, keeping weaners up to 35kg
  • Welfare and care of pigs
  • Feeding
  • Insemination
  • Vaccination
  • Moving pigs
  • Power washing
  • Responsible for maintaining the appearance of the unit

 

Person specification: 

  • The ability to work in a team and also alone
  • Passion for farming, determined, keen, capable individual with an excellent eye for detail
  • Good hygiene and biosecurity practices
  • Experience in working within a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Basic level of English and Maths
  • Punctual with good time management skills
  • Desirable - telehandler experience with a certificate, but training can be provided

 

Salary guide: £28,000 - £32,000 negotiable DOE

No accommodation is available on site, but assistance can be provided to arrange suitable accommodation if required.
